Platform Migration Checklist

Move to Shopify without losing rankings, data, or customers

18 items

Migrating ecommerce platforms is one of the highest-stakes projects a merchant can undertake. Done well, it unlocks better tools and faster growth. Done poorly, it destroys SEO rankings, breaks customer accounts, and loses years of review data.

This checklist covers every phase of migration from your current platform to Shopify, with special attention to preserving the assets that took years to build.

Pre-Migration Planning

Audit current platform datahigh

Catalog everything that needs to migrate: products, customers, orders, reviews, blog posts, pages, and redirects.

Map URL structureshigh

Document every URL on your current site and plan the corresponding Shopify URL. This is critical for redirect planning.

Export all review datahigh

Export reviews with all metadata (author, date, rating, photos, videos, responses). This data is irreplaceable social proof.

Document current integrationshigh

List every app, integration, and third-party service connected to your current platform. Find Shopify equivalents for each.

Set a migration timelinemedium

Plan a realistic timeline with milestones. Allow 2-4 weeks for testing before the live cutover.

Data Migration

Migrate product cataloghigh

Transfer all products with descriptions, images, variants, prices, and metafields. Verify every product after import.

Migrate customer accountshigh

Import customer data including order history. Note that passwords cannot be migrated; plan a password reset campaign.

Migrate order historymedium

Import historical orders for customer service continuity. This preserves the ability to look up past purchases.

Import reviews to Eevy AIhigh

Use Eevy AI review import to bring all historical reviews into your new Shopify store. Preserve dates, ratings, and media.

Migrate blog and page contentmedium

Transfer all blog posts and static pages. Update internal links to point to new Shopify URLs.

SEO Preservation

Implement 301 redirects for all URLshigh

Create 301 redirects from every old URL to its new Shopify equivalent. Missing redirects cause immediate ranking drops.

Preserve meta titles and descriptionshigh

Migrate existing meta data for all pages. Do not let Shopify auto-generate these; use your proven copy.

Update sitemap and submit to Googlehigh

Generate a new sitemap on Shopify and submit it to Google Search Console. Request re-crawl of key pages.

Monitor Search Console for errorshigh

Check Google Search Console daily for the first month after migration. Fix 404 errors and crawl issues immediately.

Testing and Launch

Test complete purchase flowhigh

Place test orders through every payment method, shipping option, and discount code. Verify order confirmations and inventory updates.

Verify review display on all product pageshigh

Confirm that migrated reviews display correctly on every product page with proper formatting, images, and ratings.

Test on multiple devices and browsersmedium

Check the entire store on iOS, Android, Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. Migration often introduces rendering issues.

Plan customer communicationmedium

Draft and schedule emails informing customers about the new store, password resets, and any changes to their experience.
